Mckinely just celebrated her 4th birthday and she insisted on having a Photo Booth with props at her party. I only had a couple of days to get it together so I was trying to brainstorm something that would be quick and easy to make, yet a little different and fun! Of course I could drape a white sheet over the fence and call it a day, but what fun is that? I actually LOVE the way this turned out and I think I am going to hang it in her room as a wall hanging because its just that cute! Here is how I made it!
branch or dowel
Find a large stick or branch outside or purchase a wooded dowel from the craft store. Tie some jute cording around each end and add a long string in the middle to hang it by. This is generally how I start all my wall hangings like the DIY Yarn Wall Art. You can find that tutorial here.
Hang your branch on the wall so that you can hang all of the greenery. I purchased two different kinds of artificial greenery at the craft store. Three strands of garland like this one here and then twelve individual branches similar to this one here. You can hang the garland right on the branch but you will need to connect the individual branches. Using floral tape, I attached each of the individual strands together to create one long strand. I attached four in each row and so I was left with six total strands of greenery. I laid them out on the floor to get an idea of how I was going to hang them.
Hang each strand of Greenery to the branch or dowel using clear fishing line. The garland has a circular piece at the top that makes it easy to hang but the individual branches do not. For the branches I just twisted floral wire around the stem and created a loop like this to attach to the large hanging branch. I did not like the way the garland looked when it was hanging because you could see the long plastic strand with the circle (note in the picture below) so I tied it up with fishing line at the top to hide it and cut it off at the bottom of the strand.
Once you get all of the strands up you can evenly space them out to achieve the look you are going for. At this point you can leave it hanging as a really cute wall piece or you can use it as a photo booth back drop. For the Photo Booth, I hung inexpensive sheer panels on a shower rod and attached that to my fence. I then took the wall hanging and placed it in front of the sheer panels like this.
The kids had sooo much fun with this and I could not be happier with how it looked. Just a heads up, artificial greenery can get very costly so I would definitely try to go to hobby lobby on one of their 50% off days and take advantage of their 40% off one item coupon that you can get online. A little tip I have learned over the years is If you go to Joanne’s or Michaels they accept competitor coupons. So for instance, you can use a hobby lobby 40% off one item, a Michaels coupon and a Joanne coupon all at the same store during check out. Pretty awesome!
I hope you enjoy this project! As always, please email me with any questions!
