I was at the store the other day looking at a wide range of lip glosses and balms and decided it would be fun to try and make my own. After a little experimentation, I came up with a really great recipe for the best, extremely moisturizing, and most importantly all natural lip gloss. I will give you the base recipe for my DIY Lip Gloss but you can certainly play around with the amounts to your liking. Once you see how easy it is to make your own gloss you may never buy the store bought stuff again!
Here’s what you will need
2 tablespoons organic beeswax HERE
2 tablespoons Dessert Essence organic coconut and Jojoba oil HERE
1 tablespoon 100% cocoa butter HERE
1 tablespoon un-petroleum jelly HERE
10-20 drops of essential oil- I used grapefruit
organic cacao powder for color- natural tan shade HERE
Beet Root Powder- natural red/pink shade HERE
First heat the beeswax, cocoa butter, coconut and jojoba oil over double broiler
once melted, transfer to a bowl and add in your essential oil (if using)
If you wish to add color, add in cacao powder for tan or Beet Root Powder for shades of red. The Beet Root Powder will also give your lips an added boost of vitamins and antioxidants! I did not use essential oils in the glosses that had color.
Next, add in your un-petroleum jelly. The recipe above is the consistency that I liked, but you can add more or less depending on the look you are going for.
Place your gloss into little containers and you are all set! These also make the cutest little gifts!
