Looking for something special to craft for the Christmas season? My Holiday Inspired Macrame Wall Hanging is really simple to make and I think it adds the perfect touch to our holiday decor. This is a great beginner piece, because we will only be using three basic knots and it works up really quick! Let’s get started!
- 5 balls of 4mm 50yard balls of this red Bonnie Craft Cord from Hobby Lobby
- wooden dowel
- string to hang your project
I cut my cording 2 body lengths because I wanted my piece to be long. If you would like something a little shorter then just cut 1 1/2. Remember, a body length is when you take one end of the cord and extend it to the left, grab the middle of the cording with your right hand, and extend to the right. That is one body length. Start by cutting 14 strands this way.
If you need help with these knots, here is a link to my other macrame wall hanging that has a great video tutorial on how to do them. Macrame Wall Hanging
attach 5 strands of your cording to the rod by using a Larks Head knot. Start working a Left Diagonal Double Half Hitch Knot. (8 knots)
Using the other middle strand, Work a Right Diagonal Double Half Hitch Knot (8 knots)
Criss Cross your middle strands and work 6 Double Half Hitch Knots like so ( 6 knots on each side)
Notice we are leaving one strand out on either side as we work down.
Criss cross your middle strands again and work your Double Half Hitch Knots. (4 knots on each side)
finish with a square knot
We are going to continue the exact same pattern as above. Like the first step, do not criss cross the middle strands and work 8 Double Half Hitch knots on either side.
Repeat steps 2 and 3
It will start to come together to look like this:
Continue this Pattern until you have 4 circular designs.
Attach 5 more strands of cording using a Larks Head Knot and create the exact same piece.
Now we are going to connect the two pieces by simply adding a square knot to the top two middle strands.
add three more square knots to bring the two pieces together. Do this by taking two strands from the square knot you just created and two strands directly to the left. Do the same for the right side and then connect them together by adding one Square Knot in the middle. I did not take a picture of this step, but we do the exact same thing in the steps below, so you can refer to those pictures if you need help with this part.
Add 4 more strands of cording using a Larks Head Knot.
make a square knot with the middle strands.
Take the two strands from the left Larks Head Knot and two from your middle square knot and work another square knot.
Now, do the same for the other side
We will join them together by working another square knot in the middle. Continue this pattern three more times.
Now we will make the “skirt” which is my favorite part!
Start by adding two strands of cording with a Larks head knot on either side of your design.
Connect them together using a Square Knot.
Now, this part is really simple! All you need to do is attach cording using a Larks Head Knot along the two strands you brought together. You can cut your cording one body length for this part, but measure to make sure it’s the correct length before you cut the rest of your cord. I used an entire ball for this part.
Trim the bottom! I chose a V shape.
Hang and enjoy your beautiful Holiday Macrame Wall Hanging!
Thank you for stopping by and Happy Holidays!!!
